Are you struggling to navigate life’s changes and challenges but feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin? Do you have a hard time being compassionate and loving to yourself? A little guidance and support can help direct you towards achieving your goals and acquiring the best tools to not only live life, but enjoy life. The idea of accepting help and being vulnerable can be intimidating and may have stopped you from getting support before. Together, we will make sure to approach your challenges and goals at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
My approach is gentle and collaborative, as I accommodate the needs of clients and emphasize the importance of person-centered care, yet I also aim to empower individuals. I believe that beneficial therapeutic relationships are rooted in trust, compassion, and open communication, and will encourage personal development and a deeper understanding of yourself.
I am dedicated to supporting you in the best way I can and helping you to feel like your best self. By accepting and working through feelings of overwhelm, difficult thoughts and emotions, practicing mindfulness and self-compassion, and establishing your needs and goals, we will welcome the growth of your authentic self.
I completed my undergrad in Psychology, Neuroscience & Human Behaviour at McMaster University, and am currently completing the final stages of my Masters at Yorkville University in Counselling & Psychotherapy. At Roots in Wellness, I am taking on clients under the supervision of Kayleen Edwards as I work towards my complete certification as a Registered Psychotherapist. I’ve always been so passionate about mental health, reducing the stigma around mental illness, and advocating for self-care, mindfulness, and well-being, and am so excited to be putting my passions and skills towards helping and supporting others.
Like many, I have experienced the struggles of anxiety and bad body image, and I can empathize with how this impacts several aspects of one’s life. I have grown to greatly appreciate the difficulties surrounding pregnancy and parenting, as well as how to navigate mental health struggles within a family. I strongly feel that accessing proper support can make a huge difference, as it can be difficult to know where to start in your mental wellness journey. I have learned that through self-reflection, effective communication skills, and a willingness to grow, major improvements can be made.
My therapeutic approaches are rooted in person-centered therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness practices, as well as cognitive behavioural therapy. I try to adapt to clients’ needs and meet them where they are at, while also encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zone to promote growth.
I would be honoured to help support you through your challenges and obstacles. I want you to live a life you enjoy and feel is aligned with your values and most authentic self. Self-love, self-care, and self-compassion are essential to maintaining healthy relationships with not only ourselves, but others, and to living a fulfilling life. We will collaborate to create a trusting, non-judgmental, and safe space to work towards your goals. In my spare time, I love running, doing yoga, playing with my dog, and eating with friends & family!
