I know that life can be a bumpy ride filled with tough situations and hard decisions that influence a person’s ability to live their day-to-day as their authentic self. Often, this can be complicated when we’re a part of a marginalized or minority group. As a therapist and a queer woman, I understand those additional challenges and strive to provide person centered care that helps my clients reach their desired destinations. Whether you want a safe and judgement-free space to be heard or want structured tools to help you cope with difficult scenarios and emotions, I’ll help navigate the paths before you step by step.
I understand that every person is unique and complex, which is why I strongly believe my clients require an approach that is tailored to their specific needs. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts and emotions at a pace that you define. We will identify your current strengths and skills that can be built upon so you can confidently tackle whatever life tries to throw at you. As your therapist, I will be with you at every step towards your goals with warmth and understanding. My core approach is rooted in Peron-centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to tailor your therapeutic experience to your personality.
Professional Background
I completed my bachelor’s degree with Honours in Psychology at Brock University. I am currently completing my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University. I have extensive experience facilitating anger management programs and substance misuse programs through my previous volunteer work at the John Howard Society where I worked with individuals tangled up in the legal system. This work sparked a passionate desire to provide the best mental health care to people regardless of their socio-economic status because everyone deserves to get the help they need with authenticity and empathetic understanding.
I have experience working with clients suffering from trauma, anxiety, depression, and much more. Additionally, as a member of the LGBT+ community myself, I understand the unique challenges and stressors that individuals facing issues regarding gender and sexuality experience. I welcome clients from all cultural, gender, and sexual identities with the desire to create a safe and judgement-free environment.
On a Personal Note…
Outside of the professional environment, I enjoy the creative arts. I love to paint in the abstract, often choosing my colours and strokes based on how I am feeling in the moment. I find it is a wonderful way to both stay grounded and stay in touch with my genuine self. In addition to painting, I enjoy creative writing and building stories both alone and collaboratively. Spending time with my friends and family is extremely important to me even when life gets busy, because I know just how precious time can be. I also adore spending time with my two dogs, Fiona the corgi and Harley the husky-mix, be it playing in the backyard or taking them for walks.
